The City and Guilds 2399 solar PV course will give an electrician or part 'P' installer a good solid grounding in environmental technologies as well as the practical experience of hands on installation of a PV system.
The 2399 qualification is recognised by the MCS accreditation board and all the governing bodies and will be a valuable addition to your qualifications.
The full course is split into 3 parts: Units 2399-11 and 2399-12 are required for MCS accreditation

2399-201 This unit will give you a greater understanding of all the different techonolgies out there and enable you to advise the customer of the best one to satisfy their requirements. This unit is required to obtain the full Level 3

2399-11 This unit is designed to give you the underpinning knowledge and understanding of installing PV systems such as; Health & Safety PV system components AC and DC systems Design, Installation, Testing

2399-12 This unit is designed to give the candidate the confidence to install and maintain a PV system which includes; Assessment of the installation, Commissioning, Positioning and fixing, Maintenance and Testing. For candidates looking to gain MCS accreditation units 2399/11-12 would be a very important step towards this goal

A separate course is available for candidates who want the full qualification incorporating 2399-201
The City & Guilds courses have been designed for qualified, electrically trained persons who will be required
to design, install and test photovoltaic systems for accreditation onto the micro-generating scheme.
Candidates must hold appropriate qualifications related to electrical installation such as knowledge of the IEE Wiring Regulations
(C&G 2381/2382) and/or inspection and testing (C&G 2391).

The design course is for those candidates who would like to advance their skills and gain a greater understanding of system design. Candidates must already have a good working knowledge of the 17th edition regulations as well as a good background in calculating cable sizes and resistance values |

The course is based around a 2 ½ hour written exam as well as a design project set by City and Guilds which on average should take approximately 20 hours of the candidates own time |

Candidates must have achieved the 2391 inspection and testing course before the design course enrolment. The course is over 16 weeks consisting of 1 evening a week. Completed project is required 4 weeks after the course ends. |

Candidates will have no set attendance dates but will arrange appointments with the assessor for portfolio building sessions. Candidates will receive a file containing all the required paperwork and templates and tutors will be available for help and advice throughout the study process. |

These courses are designed for installers who require a good understanding of today's regulations on the supply and fitting of fire alarms and emergency lighting systems. Candidates will be guided through the requirements of the British Standards. All new and rewired domestic installations must be fitted with some form of smoke or heat detectors. |
